Dahlia news for 2026

Last year, together with Jozef Teplan from Žitavská farma , we have decided to share the rare and hard-to-find varieties of dahlias that we managed to get our hands on. We were able to propagate 18 interesting varieties sought-after all over Europe and we launched the sale of plants rooted from cuttings via our e-shop. It was very challenging and adventurous experience with a steep learning curve. We plan to focus on dahlias even more intensively in 2026. And, thanks to the experience from our first season, we want to improve our methods of cultivation and sales so that our customers are as satisfied as possible and so that our plants do well wherever their new home is. Therefore, we are preparing a few important changes for this season.

Much larger selection of dahlia varieties

During the past year, we have been obsessively searching for new varieties of dahlias that we could offer to our customers. We traveled to Sweden for them, searched among small growers all over Europe and managed to import tubers from the USA. Thanks to this, our selection will be significantly larger  this year. If everything goes as planned, you will find more than 100 varieties in our e-shop in April, many of them almost unfindable in Europe. Until we upload our complete range of varieties to the e-shop, you can check a our preliminary list of varieties in the price list.

Early start for sales and shipping

Last year, our decision to start selling dahlias came relatively late, so many customers only received their plants in June. We want our plants to do as well as possible in your garden, so we plan to start selling and shipping dahlias earlier this season. We will open the e-shop on April 10th at 10:00 AM and we will ship orders from May 5th onwards. We want to be sure that the plants are delivered to you in good health, so we will only ship plants when there is no risk of frost. In case of cold weather, the shipping date of your order may be postponed.

Larger pots, larger plants

Some rare varieties of dahlias do not form the tubers as readily as we are used to with the common varieties. We want our plants to be in the best possible health and have a good chance of forming decent tubers in their first season. That is why we started rooting the dahlias very early this season and we will grow them in larger pots (11 x 11 cm). This way, you will receive larger and stronger plants from us. Our new pots contain approximately three times larger amount of the substrate, so in some cases this may mean higher shipping costs. We will update the shipping prices in April before the rooted cuttings sale starts.

No tubers sale

After our last year’s experience with selling dahlia tubers, we have decided to discontinue this method of sale. It is much more difficult for us to get the tubers to customers in good condition. In the fall, after digging up the tubers, we have very little time left to pack and ship the tubers. Last season, we had postpone the shipping of some orders until the spring. Also, what we did not expect at all, our experience with shipping dahlia tubers was significantly worse than with shipping of live plants in the spring. As a result, several of you received tubers that were broken or otherwise damaged, although we carefully checked them when packaging. Therefore, from this season, our dahlias will only be available in the spring as rooted cuttings.

P.S. No worries, the ranunculus and anemone corms will still be available in late summer, just like you are used to 😉
